PumpTrack Cycling Experience Roosendaal

Mega asphalt pump track in Roosendaal!

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, during the opening of the WielerExperience in Roosendaal, the world's largest asphalt pump track was opened. Tim Smit and his team from Velosolutions Benelux advised in the preliminary phase, and designed and built the pump track in the period from March to November 2017. With an area of almost 14 tennis courts and a length of 500 meters, this was the largest asphalt at the time of writing pump track of the world.

The WielerExperience is a cycling park on the former Red Band athletics site in Roosendaal. In addition to the pump track, a cycling track and a mountain bike course were also realized there. Contractor KWS Infra took on the project at the beginning of 2017 and found the perfect partner in Velosolutions Benelux for the construction of the pump track and the mountain bike course. On March 10, 2018, top cyclists Leontien van Moorsel, Twan van Gendt, Niels Bensink and Laura Smulders opened the various courses.

The pump track

A pump track is a kind of 'roller coaster' for almost anything on wheels. Hills, potholes and banked turns follow each other in quick succession, and by playing with the body weight, speed is generated, the so-called “pumping”. When the technique is properly executed, one can go on endlessly. From the air you can see how the 7-sided track offers a challenge for riders of all levels through a cleverly chosen symmetrical design. A children's track has been included in the design so that the smallest children with a balance bike or step can use this multifunctional sports facility.

The pump track is TÜV certified and publicly accessible. Thanks to the asphalt top layer, it can be ridden with almost anything on wheels, such as: BMX, mountain bike, skateboard, roller skate, inline skate and (stunt) scooter. This makes the track attractive to a broad target group, from children to adults, from a beginner with little experience to an expert who wants to get the most out of his or her sport. The pump track in Roosendaal thus forms a social meeting place where both young people and the elderly spend the day together and encourage each other to exercise.

Mountain bike park

In addition to the realization of the pump track, Velosolutions Benelux was also responsible for the construction of the mountain bike park. This park consists of 3 different 'cross-country' mountain bike trails. The different routes have been laid out in such a way that users of all levels can handle it. For the advanced, various obstacles have been constructed such as North Shores (wooden ramps), drop-offs and rock gardens. What is special about this bike park is that a difference in height has been created by building hills of approximately 6 meters high.

In the autumn of 2024, the PumpTrack received a makeover with red lines, so it can now last for many more years!

Tony Theunis

Alderman, municipality of Roosendaal

'The old dilapidated athletics track no longer had a function. As a municipality, we challenged the residents of Roosendaal to come up with new plans for this sports park. With a good dose of guts and energy, the WielerExperience project was realized in a year's time. We immediately found a perfect partner in Velosolutions Benelux from our first orientation meeting at Papendal.'
