In the spring of 2019, an asphalt pump track with a length of exactly 100 meters was built on behalf of the municipality of Wijk bij Duurstede. The pump track is the result of years of efforts by the local youth, who, with the support of Binding Foundation and youth worker Eno Middelham have made a case for replacing the dilapidated skate facility. The old halfpipe that was on site was in very bad shape and needed too much maintenance. Moreover, the halfpipe was only used by a very limited group of skaters and there was regular nuisance.
When designing the asphalt pump track, we considered the widest possible target group. Children from balance bike age (2 years old) to young adults will find a challenge on the new track. It doesn't matter whether they ride a skateboard, BMX bike, mountain bike, inline skate, or scooter, because the pump track is suitable for all ages. Because it's made with asphalt, this type of pump track requires significantly less maintenance than a traditional pump track or BMX track. The special asphalt mixture has been developed over the years into the ideal surface, and it is hand-applied by our own experts. Moreover, pump tracks are also very safe for users and comply with the required European standards.
After the realization it soon became clear that the playground had received a major upgrade. The pump track is the largest attraction in the play park and it attracts a wide variety of children, parents and grandparents. Due to social control, there is also much less nuisance.
The PumpTrack is such a success that we were able to expand it in 2025 with an additional course. This makes the PumpTrack even more accessible for all ages, allowing both advanced and beginners to use the course simultaneously.
